To start her teen years off on the right foot, Mary’s mom hired me to give her bedroom a radical makeover for her 13th birthday.  A paper lantern Mary loved was our main source of aesthetic inspiration -it’s where we derived our color scheme and the “line and circle” theme repeated in the bedding,  artwork,  curtains and desk.

One of Mary’s biggest challenges in her old room was keeping organized, so making her new room more functional was essential.  I made sure she had plenty of storage solutions, like a bookcase with baskets for sorting her stuff and corkboards for photos and notes.   Mary tells me her favorite aspect of the room’s makeover is the hand-painted desk, which she didn’t even recognize as the one she’d had (and hated) for years!

Her prized collection of Broadway playbills, now framed and prominently displayed, was also a big hit with the lucky and oh-so-happy teen!
